throwing caution

i gripped caution in my fist
rubbed it, hard,
flaked it into tiny bits
the wind kicked up eddies,
ozone whirlpools,
that licked at my fingers
and, one by one,
flicked them open
thumb, index, pinky, ring,
middle last of all
a flipped off sendoff
a kiss-off to cowardice
a skydive
a freefall
