a dose of inspiration

the train rocked on the tracks,
churning up a restless and
self-destructive sea

you envied the moon
its tranquility
and laced your fingers
with mine before lacing
our drinks with a double dose
of futility

we got smashed on pessimism
and laughed at the persistence
of the dawn,
always so damn confident

your scent spread like fire
on my skin
one crescent on a shoulder
and another on a thigh
as reminders of the correlation
between a promise and a lie.
