When you’ve tricked yourself into thinking that what’s best for you is to play it safe,

play it cool, girl

you come back to town as a stranger in vintage clothing

butterfly sleeves trailing behind you like memories

the round slump of your heavy shoulders hidden under avocado green wings

your walk down main street deceivingly triumphant

who are you trying to fool, girl?
